Welcome to the SAVAH website!

This is the website of the South African Visual Arts Historians (SAVAH), an organisation of academics and professionals who are dedicated to advancing art history and visual culture.

One of the key activities undertaken by SAVAH is the organisation of an ANNUAL CONFERENCE.

We also organise or participate in, on an ad hoc basis, workshops, symposia and other activities and events which we send information about to our members and sometimes post here and via our social media. Have a look at the MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS and JOIN SAVAH if you would like to become a member.

We send emails out to current members via a mailing list as well as occasionally via the SAVAH website. To ensure you receive SAVAH messages please check your junk mail and unblock SAVAH mailings, or alternatively contact your email administrator.

User accounts for this website are issued to SAVAH members for updating personal details and for renewing membership.

Nominations for SAVAH National Council

The term of office of the current council members expires this year. We therefore call on the SAVAH community for nominations for the next term of office (2026–2028). In terms of the SAVAH Constitution, written nominations for council members must be proposed and seconded by members in good standing, and agreed to beforehand by the candidate. The nominated candidate must also be a member of SAVAH in good standing.

In terms of the SAVAH Constitution, the National Council consists of seven elected members, and the Past President (ex officio). The Council has the right to co-opt up to two additional members.

Pfunzo Sidogi will automatically be on the new council as Past President so need not be nominated.

The following current Council members have indicated that they are available for re-nomination:

Annemi Conradie-Chetty, Jessica Lindiwe Draper, Rina de Klerk, Jonathan van der Walt, Justine Wintjes.

We intend to co-opt at least one student member to Council so we encourage the nomination/self-nomination of students.

Please complete the nomination form via the link below, one for each nomination. You may provide up to eight nominations.
